PROPERTIES
DID ALBEN film coated tablet 400 mg is effective against larval and mature forms of most nematodes and some cestodes by interfering with their uptake of glucose.
COMPOSITION
Each film-coated tablet contains:
Albendazole (USP 27)………………………………………………………………….400 mg .
Excipients: lactose, corn starch, povidon, natri lauryl sulfate, microcrystalline cellulose, aspartame, talc, magnesium stearate, hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose 2910, polyethylen glycol 6000, titan oxid, yellow no.5.
DESCRIPTION
Orange, caplet, film-coated tablet.
INDICATIONS
The treatment of Ascaris lumbricoides (common roundworm), Enterobius vermicularis (pinworm), Ancylostoma doudenale (common hookworm), Trichuris trichiura (whipworm), Necator americanus (American hookworm), Strongyloides stercoralis
CONTRAINDICATION
Patients with hypersensitivity to this drug.
Pregnant women or women who suspected being pregnant
Children under 2 years of age
WARNINGS
Aspartame, contained in this drug as an artificial sweetener, is metabolized into phenylalanine in the body. Thus the administration should be avoided to those phenylketonuria patients necessary for restricting phenylalanine intake.
Administration to lactation: it is not known whether albendazole is excreted in breastmilk. Because the safety on the administration during lactation has not been demonstrated, this drug should not be administered to a nursing woman.
SIDE EFFECTS
Gastrointestinal disturbances such as vomiting, heartburn and diarrhea, or headache may occur.
Immediately inform your physician of side effects, if any.
DRUG INTERACTIONS
Praziquantel has been reported to increase the plasma levels of the Albendazole active metabolite.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Adult and children over 2 years with ascariasis, enterobiasis, ancylostomiasis, trichuriasis take a single dose of 1 tablet 400 mg, and those with stronggyloidiasis take 1 tablet daily for 3 days.
In enterobiasis, adult and children over 2 years take a single dose of 1/2 tablet, after 7 days, repeated dose should be given.
This drug may be swallowed whole or chewed if required. No special procedures such as fasting or purging are required.
If the patients are not cured in three weeks after treament, a second treament should be advised.
STORAGE
Store in well-closed and light-resistant containers at a room temperature.
Keep out of reach of children.
SHELF LIFE
36 months from manufacturing date.
Do not administer after expiry date stated on the label.
